On May 3rd, 2017, members of the North Island chapter, along with the public and guests from the Whidbey Island and Pilchuck chapters, celebrated the 20th anniversary of the opening of the Comox Valley Rhododendron Garden (CVRG).

President Judi Murakami welcomed all to the celebration, especially our out of town guests. MC Dave Godfrey introduced former City of Courtenay Mayor Ron Webber, who recounted the events leading up to the official opening of the garden back in May 1997.

Current Mayor Larry Jangula also welcomed everyone on behalf of the City of Courtenay and presented all United States guests with a commerative city pin. NIRS ‘First Lady’ Gwen Wright was given the honour of cutting a special cake to commemorate the occasion.
